Grand Prismatic Spring, located in Midway Geyser Basin, has the distinction of being the park’s largest hot spring. It measures approximately 370 feet (112.8 m) in diameter and is over 121 feet (37 m) deep. It's best viewed from above so you can escape the steam and appreciate the vibrant colours.
Opalescent pool, Yellowstone Black Sands. Temperature 144°F, size: 28x55 feet and 6 feet deep. Opalescent pool has a cooler temperature than other thermal features at Black Sand Basin. Early in its history Opalescent was a boiling spring, surrounded by smaller springs. In the early 1950s it was a small dry pool, then the run-off from Spouter Geyser flowed into it. The increased water flow flooded the surrounding area, killing the lodgepole pine.
