Tower Bridge, London (1886-1894). The bridge is 800 feet (244 m) in length with two towers each 213 feet (65 m) high. The central span of the bridge is 200 feet (61 m) long and is split into two equal leaves, which can be raised to an angle of 86 degrees to allow river traffic to pass.
Albert Bridge (1873), nicknamed "The Trembling Lady" because of its tendency to vibrate when large numbers of people walked over it, the bridge has signs at its entrances that warned troops to break step whilst crossing the bridge. At night it is illuminated by 4,000 bulbs, making it one of West London's most striking landmarks.
The Palace of Westminster (1840).
