Iguaçu National Park, on the border of Argentina and Brazil, is one of the world’s largest and most impressive waterfalls, extending over some 2,700 m. It is home to many rare and endangered species of flora and fauna, among them the giant otter and the giant anteater. The clouds of spray produced by the waterfall are conducive to the growth of lush vegetation. The falls form a 2,700m wide semicircle with water that plunges down from a height of 72m. Go on the boat that goes almost under the waterfall! You'll get drenched but its very exhilarating.
The Pantanal is one of the world's largest tropical wetland areas, it sprawls over an area estimated at between 140,000 and 195,000 square kilometres (54,000 and 75,000 sq miles). About 80% of the Pantanal floodplains are submerged during the rainy season.
Approximately 10 million Yacare Caiman exist within the Brazilian Pantanal, representing what is quite possibly the largest single crocodilian population on Earth. Most adult male individuals grow to roughly 2 or 2.5 m (6.6 or 8.2 ft) in length, with the occasional 3 m (9.8 ft) individual. Their diet consists primarily of fish (especially piranha) and birds, with the occasional capybara being taken by larger adults.
Sea otter
The Hyacinth Macaw (Anodorhynchus hyacinthinus), with a length (from the top of its head to the tip of its long pointed tail) of about 100 cm (3.3 ft) it is longer than any other species of parrot. It is the largest macaw and the largest flying parrot species. They have a distinctive call and delighted in throwing nuts down at me from the top of the tree.
Travel tip - go piranha fishing! The sound the piranha make as they gobble the lure is quite scary. Don't forget insect repellant because the mosquitoes will bite through clothing.
